Dropp-it
Introduction
Dropp-it is a courier service solution for one of Sri Lankan clients. The customer wanted to start the service only in Kurunegala area and expand the service outside of Kurnugela once the platform gets enough traction from the users. The client has five drivers who can deliver any item less than 5KG and the first 5KM from the pickup point will be free of charge. Additional charges will be applied for every other kilometer.
Challenges
One of the major challenges was, the app should show the nearby drivers to its customer before placing the order. After that, the driver also gets notified and can confirm the order if it meets the required standards (weight and distance). The solution needs to have two mobile applications for both customer and the driver. Furthermore, our development team had to conduct a research on how to confine the location only to Kurunegala area and calculate the charges under given conditions.
Solution
After having a many number of meetings with the client, we have finalized all the requirements and break down the project into milestones. The team reviewed the product after every sprint and get direct feedback from the customer. We decided to develop both apps simultaneously along with the admin portal. Confining the map into a small area was solved by displaying a circle on top of the map. Therefore, the customer can choose the delivery points which are within the circled area.
